The Story

A stage that went dark, and the people bringing back the light.

This is not a new contest. It is the return of a cultural institution born in Johannesburg in 2015.

2015

It began at the Market Theatre.

On 8 August 2015, the first Miss Cameroon South Africa was crowned at the Market Theatre in Newtown, created in association with the Miss Cameroon Organising Committee to celebrate women's development, cultural diversity and community service.

2016

Two nations at the Victory Theatre.

The second edition, at the Victory Theatre in Johannesburg, opened its doors to South African women. Joan Awum Akob was crowned Miss Cameroon South Africa, beside a South African titleholder. Two countries, one crown ceremony, and a bridge between Cameroon and South Africa.

The silence

Then came the Anglophone Crisis.

Late in 2016, the Anglophone Crisis divided Cameroonians at home and across the diaspora, and the pageant could not carry on. The wounds have not fully healed. But a decade later, we believe they no longer have to keep us off the same stage.

2027

The crown returns, during Africa Month.

On Saturday 29 May 2027, in the closing weekend of Africa Month, Miss Cameroon South Africa returns to Johannesburg. In 2026 a diaspora contestant was crowned Miss Cameroon. The next one could be living in South Africa today.

Who we're looking for

You don't need to have done this before. You need to be ready to be seen.

You were born in Joburg to Cameroonian parents, or you moved here and built a life. Either way, you're always explaining where you're really from.

You're Anglophone, or Francophone, and you're tired of being asked to choose a side.

You're a mother who put her own plans on hold. They didn't expire.

You're a student, a nurse, an engineer, a hairdresser. You've never walked a stage, and you've always wondered.

You're South African, you grew up with Cameroonian friends, and you've always wanted to see the country they talk about.

You're 34 and someone told you it's too late. The age limit is 35.

No pageant experience needed. Coaching and mentorship are part of the journey.
